On September 26, a dispute between Gen Salim’s wife Sheila Ebaka Akandwanaho, and Native Voices International Executive Director Sarah Kiiza Nsigaye came to media attention where Nsigaye accused Gen.

Saleh’s wife of using state machinery to put her office under siege and detaining her daughter and staff member as bait to get hold of Nsigaye’s creatives works without pay.

Nsigaye noted that Sheila Akandwanaho intended to default and rob her of work and videos she filmed for her foundation “SEA foundation.”

Meanwhile, the two parties have since settled their disputes according to Sarah Nsigaye

Nsigaye said in a statement that the Chief production executive handed over the Raw and edited footage of the video recording material of the COVID-19 relief project to SEA Foundation and SEA Foundation Ltd also acknowledging receipt of payment to the same.

We further undertake and confirm that we shall never at any material time use the said work for the Foundation in our Resume or any Platform and hereby acknowledge receipt of the full balance of monies from SEA Foundation Ltd and the Foundation withdraws its Compliant against Native TV at URSB and neither the foundation nor Sarah Nsigaye or Native TV have any claim against each other,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nsigaye urged the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and other authorities to always be investigative and careful whenever handling creatives’ copyright infringement complaints other than taking immediate response before they can fully investigate and digest the matter.

The Native case was the first of its kind, so it has provided URSB with a case study for the different complaint scenarios, while we have now provided a case study, the emotional strain it put on my daughter Mirembe Serumaga and staff Christine Nangobi is regrettable,” she said.

She, however, expressed gratitude to SEA Foundation’s lawyer Johnson Tumuhimbise, for listening to his fellow counsel and as such, discussing and making sure both sides’ interests are covered.

I also want to thank staff and management of UNCC particularly the Executive Director Mr. Francis Ojede, and head of security Kent for standing with us and offering to put a padlock where we could not access the premises but URSB wasn’t allowed to break our office either, otherwise, we would now be looking at court or demanding compensation,” she said.
