Hajji Hussein Kyanjo 62, the former MP of Makindye West is dead.
Kyanjo died at Kibuli Hospital at around 10 am this morning, according to family members.
His burial is expected today in Ntuuma, Bukomasimbi district.
Speaker Among was among the first people to confirm his death when he posted,
“It is with great pain that we received the news of the passing of our elder and former Makindye West MP Hon Hajj Hussein Kyanjo,” Among tweeted.
“Hajj set the bar for legislative excellence and leaves a legacy of a distinguished lawmaker, a unifying factor, and a leader who exhibited integrity.”
Kyanjo was a prominent outspoken opposition Justice Forum (JEEMA) party politician Kyanjo was first elected to Parliament in 2001 and served until 2011. He was a vocal critic of the government and was often at odds with his own party leadership.
In 2011, Kyanjo fell ill and was hospitalized for several months. He claimed that he had been poisoned, but the cause of his illness was never officially determined.
Kyanjo’s death is a major loss to the Ugandan political landscape. He was a respected figure who was known for his integrity and his commitment to public service.
