Foreign Affairs Minister Hajj Abubakar Jeje Odong jas revealed that Uganda’s exports to Tanzania have dropped to $122.9M compared to that from Tanzania which has increased to $1Bn over the years.
Odong was speaking at the Uganda-Tanzania Bilateral Meeting with a delegation from Tanzania led by Amb Liberata Mulamula, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania in Kampala.
“Given the potential that exists between our countries, the volume of trade can grow significantly higher & contribute to our economic growth,” he said
Jeje Odong said that he is happy to note Uganda and Tanzania agreed to eliminate non-tariff barriers.
“Uganda High Commission has achieved in terms of increased sugar exports & campaigning for the removal of tariff barriers on milk and the $500 dollars on Uganda trucks,” he said
Speaking at the function, Amb Mulamula hailed the good existing relations between the two countries and promised to avail more opportunities.
The meeting is aimed at coming up with reforms that will boost economic development and create lasting peace.
