EXPELLED: 5 St Mary’s Kitende Students Sent Home For Supporting URA FC

ENTEBBE, Uganda: As scores of students returned home for their first term holidays, parents of five senior six candidates at St Mary’s Kitende are in tears after their students were expelled. The reason we can exclusively reveal this is for purportedly supporting a rival team, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). According to scores of students who talked to us in confidence, it’s always St. Mary Kitende proprietor Lawrence Mulindwa’s wish, or call them explicit orders to have all students throng his St Mary’s stadium Kitende to cheer up his club, Vipers Football Club.

Genesis

On Saturday April 22 Vipers hosted tax Giants URA in a thriller that ended in a one all draw (1-1). The match kicked off at 6pm and Lawrence Mulindwa was present to witness the afternath. According to the students (names with held), they are always instructed to shout and cheer Vipers team all through the game.

“Mulindwa has a special seat at the Stadium. On that day when Vipers hosted URA he was present. But scores of students who sat behind him were cheering URA whenever they made a super move against Vipers,”narrated our source.

“This cheering didn’t go down well with the Director (Mulindwa), apparently some teachers were busy recording these students as well,” explained the source.

We are informed that after the match, the irked former FUFA president demanded to know the students who were supporting URA. With the video evidence from the teachers phones, the students were easily identified and sent packing.

Some of the classmates of the expelled students told us how terrified they are.”Why expell a candidate just because they supported a rival team. We shall take this far,” said one parent. Another parent noted that Mulindwa things he is to “powerful”, rich and untouchable, but we shall sort this in courts or law.

Mulindwa formerly a teacher at Standard High Zana opted to start his own school at St Mary’s Kitende. Though unconfirmed reports indicate that there lies an “invisible powerful hand” behind this mega school that has continued to top in both O and A level exams over the last decade, that to us is story for another day.

Our efforts to get a comment from Lawrence Mulindwa, the proprietor and director at St Mary’s Kitende as well we the school management were futile.

UNEB Stand

Uganda National Examinations Board Executive Secretary Daniel Odongo has always stated that indiscipline of students can’t be of an issue to them (UNEB). Odongo notes that students who are candidates and  misbehave can’t be shielded by UNEB. “Whoever is suspended by a school, yet a candidate for misbehaving can’t come to us to intervene.”.

One time the headmaster of Nyakasura School Rev  Bernardson suspended the entire Senior Four candidates for indiscipline.

We are yet to ascertain from UNEB top brass whether supporting a team of your choice tantamounts to indiscipline that should be backed by expulsion.
