Emmanuel Omoding, son to the late Hon Patrick Okabe has on Thursday 23, been declared the newly elected member of parliament for Serere County Constituency
Omoding who lost his father to an accident in December 19, last year stood and contested as independent in this election having lost to Phillip Oucor as National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer and considered one of the favorites
However, at around 10:54Pm, Sylvia Cheptegei who also dubs as the returning officer, Serere electoral district declared Omoding as the candidate who obtained the largest number of votes having generated a margin of over 2,432 votes
According to Cheptegei Omoding won with 15,638 votes , followed by NRM’s Oucor at 13,206 votes, Alliance For National Transformation (ANT) Alice Alaso and the only woman scooping 3,335 votes, Martin Onguruco’s Independent at 2,523 and Forum For Democratic Change (FDC)’s Emmanuel Eratu with the least at 1,252 votes.
The total number of valid votes cast also included 35,954, 812 were invalid, 170 spoilt and 36,766 as the total number of ballot papers counted and from the 138 polling stations in Serere County Constituency
Unlike Omoding, the succession cycle of specially newly elected parliamentary leaders rides on as many leaders including the most recent being the late speaker jacob Oulanyah’s son benefiting from the like when he defeated National Unity Platform’s Simon Toolit in the Omoro County by elections last year.
