Young people have been advised to move away from their comfort zones and embrace each and every opportunity that comes their way.
These were reminded that life after school is so hectic “except for a little who have their parents that are ready to invest in their plans,”
“Unfortunately those are the few, walk away from your comfort zones and explore opportunities because life after school is not easy,” said Beatrice Bonita Nanziri, a Venture Associate at StartHub Africa said while giving her keynote address, during Africa Career Day Kampala at Clarke University in Kampala.
“The majority of students focus on their class degrees and forget about their social capital yet the society we associated with is a great pillar for our development,” she added.
Nanziri, who is also a Software Engineer, entrepreneur, patent innovator, and Business Coach rallied students to always learn a skill because artificial technology is taking over the majority of the work, “degree holders are currently doing,”
“Are you able to sustain after school? Take risks and say yes to opportunities that come your way. At your age you can take risks because there will come a time when you won’t be able, do it now,” she said
The Career Day Kampala was organized by a section of the Alumni of Clarke International University (CIU), who are also former fellows of the Global Health Corps (GHC) at CIU on Saturday.
Speaking to journalists at the sideline of the event, Caroline Achola the GHC Alumni Chapter President said that young people should embrace opportunities that come their way because these will transform their lives.
“Like the GHC Fellowship, it can help you will get career guidance, mentorship, and employment opportunities,” she said
This Career day, she said was organized after they realized that majority of the students had snubbed going back to school after the covid-19.
“We want them to know that there is better pay for a person who has gone to a school than those that have left in the middle and this cut across even in terms of respect,” she said
The Career Day brought together different Alumni from the medical professional, engineering, business professionals, entrepreneurs, and students fraternity.
Speaking during the engagement, Sylvia Achebet the Chairperson of the CIU Alumni said that they will continue organizing such engagements to ensure that the students are guided and mentored in the right directions.
“As Alumni, we had very many students go through this University and want to assure you that we shall work hard to ensure that all people’s lives are improved,”
Achebet, who is the ED of Masha Coffee, like Nanziri called upon young people to always venture into businesses that will improve their lives.
In appreciation for the Career Day, Hanington Angume, the Guild President of CIU hailed the University Alumni for the gesture that has left many students, especially those who attended inspired.
“We thank them for the guidance, we have gotten some information we didn’t know for example that education does not only book,” he said adding,
“My fellow students just told me that they have got chances of going for internships which is a gateway for jobs,”
