Four members of the top leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO) have arrived in Uganda following the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus.
These include among others; Dr. Micheal J. Ryan, the WHO Executive Director, Dr. Joseph Cabore, the AFRO Director Programme Management, Dr. Gueye Abdou Salam, AFRO Director Emergency Preparedness and Response, and Dr. Phiona Braka the AFRO Emergency Operations Manager.
Their arrival was confirmed by Dr. Yonas Tegen Woldemariam, the WHO Representative to Uganda in the October 9, letter to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng the Minister of Health.
“The main objective of their visit is to attend the High-Level Emergency Ministerial Meeting on Cross Border Collaboration for Preparedness and Response to Ebola Virus Disease scheduled on 12 October 2022,” he said
He added that the officials would also like to visit the field team in Mubende and strengthen the support on the ground.
“The WHO team is also looking forward to having discussions on Ebola response support needed from the WHO Regional Office. Hon. Minister, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration,” he noted.
Their visit come at the time when the country is grappling with Ebola Virus which broke out in late August.
