DaParrot Series: Part 4; ‘Tranz Network Uganda’ What Gov’t Established About it’s LGBTQ Dealings, Promotion

Tranz Network Uganda (TNU) is among the 26 non-governmental organizations, hiding behind ‘human rights’ to promote homosexuality in Uganda.

This was confirmed by government through its body of the National NGO Bureau in a a January Report of the Status of LGBTQ in Uganda.

The Report highlighted 26 Organizations, where 4 investigations were concluded and 22 still under investigation.

TNU, which was incorporated at URSB on 30th March 2016 and applied for registration with the NGO Bureau on 11th October 2021, is number 3 on the list of whose investigation was concluded.

The Organization is located along Bahai Road opposite Bahai Temple with on day times telephone contacts including; +256 787 832 896 | +256 708 901 232 and  info@tranznetwork.org.

The Memorandum and Articles of Association, the major objectives of the organization include; 

“advocating for human rights, especially the right to information, education, health and full recognition of the marginalized community in Uganda”

“sensitizing the members and the community at large on prevention of sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS and other diseases”

“bringing together every person of good will without any distinction so as to look for solutions to problems faced by the several members among the marginalized communities or victims of all forms of discrimination”

“exploring opportunities that will be beneficial or improving the quality of their life especially ones that promote social, economic, cultural, gender education and health issues in the community”

“facilitating and promoting the access of proper medical interventions as well as ensuring laws are passed explicitly to protect the marginalized community from discrimination in health care units”

“establishing a drop- in center where various forms of assistance and support are provided without any discrimination” 

“integrating colleagues back into society with temporary shelter homes especially those that have been rejected by their families or close ones and also those that get out of prison” and 

“empowering economically the marginalized people through running a SACCO”

According to their website, TNU is an indigenous not for profit umbrella organization for transgender and gender diverse persons organizations in Uganda. 

These said on their website that Trans and gender diverse persons in Uganda are often socially, economically, politically and legally marginalized.

“Discrimination against trans and gender diverse persons largely stems from multiple forms of stigma relating to gender identity, gender expression and perceived sexual orientation. Stigma, discrimination and lack of legally authorized or gender-appropriate identity documents exclude many trans and gender diverse persons from civic participation, limit economic opportunities and results into poverty and marginalization which increase vulnerability,” it reads in part.

“Discrimination against transgender people exposes them to violence yet in reporting these violations to the police; transgender survivors sometimes experience further physical violence at the hands of the police who are meant to protect them,” it adds.

How they promote homosexuality

According to the report, TNU has on several occasions supported arrested persons and routinely conduct trainings and capacity building for LGBTQ personnel.

“They have 8 donors so far that is; GIZ, American Jewish Service, USAID, Open Society Initiative for East Africa, UHAI, Tides Foundation, Policy and Transnet work, OXFAM, Amplified Change among others,” 

Criminalization of sexual relations between people of the same sex under the Penal Code Act of Uganda, coupled with lack of legal recognition of their gender means that transgender people are legally considered to have engaged in same-sex relations and are, therefore, subject to persecution.

TNU show it openly on the website that they are fighters for the Rights of Gays.
