Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi has remanded three protesters to Luzira Prison until September 12. The individuals, charged with common nuisance, were arrested after staging a nude protest on Parliament Avenue, demanding the resignation of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among over alleged corruption and other concerns.

The protest follows a July incident where dozens of youths were arrested for attempting to march to Parliament, protesting alleged high-level corruption among senior government officials, including ministers and Members of Parliament.

The three protesters Kobusingye Norah, a resident of Kawempe Division, and Aloikin Praise Opoloje and Kemitoma Kyenzibo, both residents of Kampala District were arrested on Monday for making a procession in the middle of the road while partially nude, with slogans written on their bodies.

According to the police, their actions were unauthorized and caused annoyance or obstruction to the public.

In July, Speaker Among commented on the protests, attributing the unrest to dissatisfaction with Parliament’s cooperation with the President, and criticized the recent demonstrations in Kampala as self-serving.

Uganda is currently facing resource shortages, with the most pressing issue being the government’s inability, through the Ministry of Health, to fully deploy medical interns due to a lack of adequate resources.
