Court Of Appeal Dismisses Watira’s Petition, Upholds Wakikona’s Election

Court of Appeal has today dismissed the election petition filed by former Bushigai County parliamentary aspirant Wilson Watira and upheld David Wandendeya Wakikona’s victory.

Electoral Commission announced NRM’s Wakikona as the winner of the Bushigai MP seat in Bududa district with 4,198 votes while former Bududa district LCV chairperson Watira came second with 2,172 but the latter went to High Court to challenge the results claiming Wakikona was nominated illegally because his academic documents had different name arrangements.

Mbale High Court dismissed the petition but Watira proceeded with the case to the court of appeal, seeking annulment of Wakikona’s victory. All the five judges of the Court of Appeal in Kampala ruled in Wakikona’s favor on Friday morning and dismissed the case for holding no substance.

Wakikona says he is pleased with the ruling and is now focused on serving the people of Bushigai since one full year of his term has been wasted in court. He thanked his constituents for standing with him and praying during the court processes.
