CNOOC’s First Oil Rig Arrives in Mombasa

CNOOC Uganda Ltd's Oil Rig is in Mombasa

As Oil works intensify in the King Fisher Development Area, the China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) Uganda Ltd the operator of the area is yet to receive its first oil rig. The Rig has so far arrived in Mombasa.

CNOOC Uganda Ltd is one of the two licensed oil companies in the Albertine announced.

It is a statement on Thursday that announced that the Oil Rig arrived at the Mombasa coast, ready for transportation into Uganda. The land rig LR8001, which was shipped from Yantai Port in China in July, arrived this morning at the Kenyan port.

The fully automated silent rig is equipped with industry-leading technologies such as well site de-noising control, zero discharge system, and pipe column automation system.

 “The whole set of equipment supports the integrated operation of various wellbore and well types, and during the operation effectively protects the regional ecological environment,” said Mr. Chen Zhuobiao, President of CNOOC Uganda Limited. 

This comes days after Total Energies which is operating the Tilenga oil area, north of Kingfisher also announced late last month that its own rig (ZPEB Rig 1501) had successfully completed its endurance test and was ready to be shipped.
