Mufti Ramathan Mubajje the leader of the Uganda Muslim Council (UMSC), his Secretary-General Hajji Ramathan Mugalu, and Chairman Hajji Abdul Naduli have allegedly been sacked.

Mubajje’s sacking was reached last evening after 142 Members of the General Assembly passed a vote of no confidence against Mufti Shiekh Shaban Mubaje and Secretary-General Ramathan Mugalu accusing them of overthrowing the UMSC Constitution.

The petition represents 147 members out of the 230 total members of the General Assembly

The tri’s sacking came two days after the same members petitioned the President, seeking his immediate interventions in what they called Corruption and disorder at the UMSC leadership.

“We the concerned Muslim leaders in Uganda whose particulars appear at the end of this document do hereby petition Your Excellency and the government of Uganda for your urgent intervention to assist in curbing deep-rooted disorder in the Muslim society caused by the unbearable failures and deliberate mismanagement of Muslim affairs caused by the administration of Mufti Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, Secretary-General, Ramathan Mugalu and Chairman, Hajj Abdul Naduli whose tenure expired on 13th May 2022.,” reads part of the document that was addressed to the President by these members seen by DaParrot.

“The trio have caused a constitutional crisis within the institution whereby the UMSC General Assembly expired on 13th May 2022 and it wasn’t constituted in accordance with the UMSC constitution (Article 2:7). The procedure for constituting a General Assembly is through a general election organized by the UMSC electoral commission, which electoral commission is elected by each assembly during its last session before general elections (Article 3:1); all that is legally impossible because of the expiry of the General Assembly before electing the electoral commission,” it adds

There is a heavy police and military deployment at the UMSC Head Offices in Old Kampala to block today’s meeting.

The UMSC as the General Assembly prepares to convene today 12th. July at Old Kampala.

The controversial General Assembly is likely to again sack the Secretary generally of UMSC Ramathan Mugalu who was reinstated by the joint session amidst bribery last week.
