Bobi Wine Dubai fundraising show cancelled hours after interrogative detention

National Unity Platform (NUP) head, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine said that his Dubai show that sought to fundraise for Ugandans stranded in the Middle East has been canceled.

Via his social media handles, Kyagulannyi allegedly said the Venue owner to which the show had been organised announced the cancellation on ‘orders from Dubai authorities’

“The information available shows Ugandan authorities have been working tooth and nail to ensure it doesn’t happen! The first attempt was to deny me entry, and now this!” he posted.

Kyagulanyi had initially been detained in Dubai and grilled for eight hours after his phone and passport were confiscated on arrival.

Reasons for the earlier detention remained unclear. He however said that under detention, he was was questioned about NUP, its leaders, their phone numbers, his family members and their contacts before his phone and passport were returned.

“Landed in Dubai at 8:30pm. It’s now 5am. I’ve been held & interrogated for 8hrs. They asked me about NUP, its leaders, their phone numbers, my family members & their contacts! I have all necessary travel docs. They’ve confiscated my passport & my phone. Am literary under arrest,” Kyagulanyi tweeted earlier.

He however an hour later pronounced that he had been cleared to proceed to Dubai.

The Opposition lead figure’s visit to the Middle East comes in the midst of arising complaints of mistreatment of Ugandan immigrant workers at their workplaces.
