Police have confirmed the arrest of one resident of Arua who was found in possession of 75 cartons of City Local Gins.

The suspect was found with the 1,800 bottles of the deadly gin, in an operation that was being held by the Arua local police last week.

The operation aimed at arresting and recovering all the illicit substances that were still distributed, consumed, and stored on the market having been tipped off by a whistleblower

According to the Deputy Police Spokes Person, Claire Nabakka a concerned citizen in the area alerted the local area police that they

were still some local residents who had been still secretly storing and consuming this local gin

Late last month the police arrested three suspects on allegations of selling the City 5 Gin having claimed over 12 lives and leaving over 20 intoxicated

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) also followed suit by banning the local gin from being sold anyway on the market due to its unsafe nature and not matching the standards specifications under the UNBS Act.

Nabakka however notes that efforts to arrest all suspects are still going on including the two suspects who are still on the run and one Mzee Sabiti who was exonerated from an operation in Ganda Kona house village dealing in the processing of a non-satisfied family gin and without an operational license and not conforming to the quality standards.

14 jerricans of gin were recovered and 4 other suspects also arrested

She then appealed to the public to continue providing information about the people who continue distributing the illicit gins and emphasized that operations against these banned substances were still ongoing and those found guilty will be dealt with according to the law.
