Arua: female juvenile murders own baby, dumps the body in pit latrine


Territorial police of Ayivu West Division, Arua City are investigating an incident of murder where a 16year old female juvenile, resident of Ediofe Ewanyapa cell, Komite ward, Ayivu West Division, Arua City allegedly murdered her own two weeks old baby.
The primary 4 school dropout reportedly dumped her baby in pit latrine at around 2:00am on Wednesday December 16, 2023, while staying under the care of her brother in Ewanyapa cell.
The police spokesperson for west Nile police region, SSP Josephine Angucia disclosed the development to the press over the weekend. She says when the police rushed to the scene after a tip off, they found the baby had died and the body already retrieved.
“Postmortem was done on the body and relevant statements were recorded. Motive of dumping the body into the pit latrine is not yet known, inquiries continue under Ayivu West Division CRB 236/2023.” SSP Josephine Angucia discloses.
The police publicist warns teenagers against indulging in unhealthy relationships with the opposite sex but rather embrace education. She calls upon parents and guardians to guide and guard their children against involving in unhealthy relationships that expose them to child pregnancies and associated dangers.
By press time the suspect was arrested and detained at Arua Central police station, pending to be transferred to Ayivu West Division headquarters.
In a related development, the territorial police of Pakwach have arrested a 19year old teenager for allegedly stabbing to death a boda boda rider after robbing him of his motorcycle last week.
The incident took place at Borowio swamp in Wadelai Subcounty, Pakwach district. The suspect has been identified as Japyem Joel, Male adult, 19years, a peasant, resident of Borowio village, Raghem Parish, Raghem Subcounty, Pakwach district.
Police Spokesperson for west Nile SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed to the press over the weekend that The motor cycle with registration number UFX 881F, Bajaj Boxer, Red in Colour which was robbed from the deceased Bodaboda rider was recovered from the suspect who is still under police custody.
“Police visited the scene after a tipoff from the locals and took the body at first to Nebbi General Hospital for postmortem. The postmortem report indicated the body had multiple deep cuts on the head, back, chest and the stomach using a blunt object. He was suspected to have been killed elsewhere and the body dragged to the swamp. As police vigorously investigated the matter, they were able to arrest the suspect and recover the deceased’s motorcycle from him.” SSP Angucia narrates.
The deceased’s relatives from Nebbi reportedly stormed home of the suspected murderer, burnt houses and destroyed Properties like Cars, crops, livestock among others, belonging to the deceased and his relatives.
The west Nile Police publicist urges the aggrieved relatives not to take law into their hands but rather cooperate with police, assuring them that the suspects will be produced before court for appropriate punishment.
