Arua: 200 crimes committed in Christmas season

Police in west Nile registered total of 208 cases of crimes in the region on eve of Christmas, the Christmas Day and on Boxing Day this year.


According to SSP Josehine Angucia, the Police Public Relations Officer for west Nile sub region, Nebbi registered the highest number of cases totaling to 42, followed by Zombo with 33 cases, Maracha had 27 cases, Arua Central and Terego tied on 19 cases each meanwhile Arua District had the most peace celebrations with only two crime cases registered.


Angucia disclosed that despite the high number of crimes registered, generally the Christmas celebrations were peaceful. She said the leading cases registered were assault, theft and domestic violence totaling to 109, 44 and 22 respectively.


“We only registered three fatal accidents and two murder cases. This means that generally the Christmas celebrations were peaceful with few incidences of major crimes. We now urge our people to be law abiding in order to usher in New Year 2024 peacefully.” Agucia urges.


Angucia is appealing to the public to be law abiding and desist from infringing on other people’s rights. She advises people, especially the youth to learn to tame their anger and be patient in life.
