Suspected armed assailants from the Alliance Democratic Forces (ADF) on Friday night attacked Lubiriha secondary School in Mpondwe, western Uganda.
These killed 25 students on the spot and stole food including posho and beans and set the school in a blaze.
Police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga said their officers led by the Bwera District Police Commander swung into action upon receiving the news.
The DPC he said, got in touch with the battalion comdr and the forces advanced to the scene.
“On arrival, the school was found burning with dead bodies of students lying in the compound and the school’s food store broken into and food to wit posho and beans taken,” Enanga said in a statement.
25 bodies had been discovered by the time SCP Enanga released the statement on Saturday morning.
Eight [8] survivors, he said were also discovered and taken to Bwera government hospital
“Fire truck from the region has been called to put off the fire,” he said
“Commanding officer 5 mountain battalion, DPC, and the team all at the scene. Deployment was done to safeguard the scene. UPDF on the move to pursue the attackers,” he added
According to the information obtained from the public, SCP Enanga said the attackers moved on foot with some abducted students (numbers not established) whom they used to carry the looted food towards Virunga national park.
