The cost of ordinary Super Rice now costs between Shs5000 and Shs6000 in different parts of the Country
Inflation has led to the skyrocketing majority of basic necessities.
“Inflation for September 2022 shoots to 10.0% from 9.0% registered in August 2022. Core Inflation is recorded at 8.1% in September from 7.2% recorded in August 2022,” The September UBOS CPI indicates
“Rice inflation increased by 12.3% in September 2022 from the 0.3% rise recorded in August 2022. Dried Mukene inflation increased by 19.6% in September 2022 from the 17.4% rise of August 2022,” it adds
According to the CPI, inflation was highest in Arua at 14.4% from 10.4% in August. Mbale ranked second highest with 12.5%, August was 11.8%. Kampala High Income registered 8.3% inflation for September, August was 7.6%.
“Matooke (bunch) monthly Inflation that rose by 33.6% in September 2022 from 17.6% rise recorded in August 2022. In addition, Dry beans inflation rose by 12.7 percent in September 2022 from the 4.1 percent rise recorded in August 2022,”
For the Monthly Headline Inflation for September, the CPI stated that increased by 1.5% from the 1.% of August 2022 and the monthly Core Inflation rose by 1.2% in September 2022 from the 0.7% rise recorded in August 2022.
“Annual Liquid Energy Fuels Inflation decreased to 50.6% in September, August was 54.9%. Annual Petrol inflation decreased to 55.3% in September 2022, August was 59.4%. Cooking Gas Inflation decreased to 19.3% in September, August was 27.3%. Annual Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas & pulses’ Inflation increased to 30.3% in September 2022, August was 25.3%. Beans Inflation increased to 39.6% in September 2022, August was 27.0%,” it reads
The Sugar inflation, it states rose to 29.3% in September 2022 from 20.1% in August 2022.
“The Annual Quarterly inflation for Residential properties in Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area increased to -1.3% for Q1 2022/23 from -1.5% for Q4 2021/22. Annual inflation of properties in Kampala Central and Makindye areas decreased to -13.7% in Q1, Q4 was 2.4%,”
